Meet, Educate, Collaborate & Engage with the Sydney Business Community

I was asked by a member about the various networking events available around sydney... here was my reply

Hi Matt, that all depoands on what you want to acheive.

Theres alot of groups out there. Angeliques group is a good one she will have details.

Theres also BNI.com and business swap, toastmasters and the list goes on...

The local chambers group are good as are the AIM groups. Its important to recognise the difference between a good business event where people come together and a networking event where people leverage contacts. Delete Comment

I am involved in a local chamber of commerce (and recently became the secretary) so to keep me in the loop with what is going on in my local community. Your comment on the difference between business and networking events I find quite interesting..
Don't forget Silicon Beach if you are interested in the web/tech/startup space - http://groups.google.com.au/group/silicon-beach-australia

We have drinks in Sydney every Friday evening from about 5.30 pm
there is also a good list of Sydney Meetups and Events: Information Technology / Web Industry / New Media" http://bit.ly/AwX4g
If you're after something a little different, we run the Infusion Networking Group which promotes cross-cultural networking between Asian and Western professionals, business owners and entrepreneurs, and is designed for people who are interested in furthering their business goals into Asia internationally and on a local level. http://www.infusion.org.au
Hi Dave,

The first matter to consider before selecting a Networking Event is; what you are looking to achieve at the networking event?. Too many people attend networking events to say they went to a networking event.

You need to have a clear goal on who you want to meet and what you want to achieve at every event you attend.

Here is an extended list of Networking events in Sydney.

A-List Entrepreneurs
Business Chicks
Last Thursday Club
Networx
BNI
Business Swap
Red Tent Women
Sydney Young Professionals
Infusion
Mobile Mondays

They are all fantastic events, not all be fantastic to you. Links to these events can be found at http://networkingcoach.com.au/sydney-small-business

In the 12 Steps to Effective Networking I cover in my networking workshops, Step 5 is do your research before attending any event.

I would be happy to answer any questions about these events.

Many thanks.

Hi all, we also host networking events - each month in Sydney and Melbourne. Mainly for women leading teams - either in the corporate space or within their own company. The brave men that do attend keep coming back and have made some brilliant connections. Numbers are capped to allow a comfortable experience for all who attend. Speakers are first class and networking facilitators are provided at each table to ensure you meet all at your table efffectively. Informal networking in the foyer prior to room entry and after the event until 9.30-ish. Event is held in the beautiful and sophisticated Tearoom at the QVB. Come along - I know you will enjoy it! Hi Dave,

I'm completely new to this site. Something I'm a bit confused about is why there is no (monthly? fortnightly?) meet up for the 406 members of sydneynetworkers.net? Obviously all in Sydney and obviously all like minded people with networking as a goal.

I have scoured the whole page looking for it, but at this stage I only see events other people here are organising. Am I missing something? I was inspired by the home page where it said "You can’t dispute the value of getting face to face with your network to build a relationship. Sydney Networkers aims to facilitate meeting with a network rather than replace it." Alas, I can find no face to face for the members. Is one coming?
Hi Tim,

Your brand new so you are yet to get some of the emails explaining how this works.

Your right, it would be nice to organise a group get together but its been hard to get off the ground. Most members enjoy organising 'one on ones' to 'strategically network' with each other. ie find people with whom they have a realistic chance of long term networking with.

There are lots of networking event organisers in Sydney so they post their events free of charge on the event calendar to invite members along. The site has become an aggregator for the many networking groups that operate in Sydney.

If you want to get face to face (and you should) either attend on of the many events coming up or search the members by relevant keywords to your business activity.

If your here for business generation, who are you likely to share customers with? How can you add value to their product or service offering?
cool. Ok. Thanks for the explanation.
NSW Business Chamber have regular events, ranging from 30 - 100 + attendees, you dont have to join up just pay a nominal fee for each event.
