5 reasons your creative people hate working for you!

Posted on November 11, 2009 at 7:35pm 0 Comments

Leading creative people is like herding cats. They sometimes appear to be all over the place, to be mischievous, off in their own worlds, extremely curious and can be a tad hard to manage at times. But your business needs them and they need you, and when you get to understand and know creative people, gain their confidence and respect, then extraordinary things happen.

Unfortunately most leaders don’t take the time to understand that… Continue

Where are all the creative people?

Posted on October 6, 2009 at 8:00pm 0 Comments

It occurs to me there is a great divide, an ‘us’ and ‘them’ scenario, going on when we talk about ‘creative people’. By labeling certain people as ‘creative’ we are in fact excluding others.

Now I know that some people are more creative than others, and we should all be very glad of that, but the truth is that creative people, of all types and talents, can be found everywhere. In fact they’re on all levels of your organization and the sad thing… Continue

Creative people work and think differently. Unfortunately, by failing to understand that fact, business leaders often frustrate creative people and fail to tap into their true genius.

The Creativity Gap

Posted on September 8, 2009 at 5:59pm 0 Comments

There is a definite gap between the value an organization places on creativity and its ability to fully utilize the talents of its creative people.

Recently we conducted a survey, which went to both creatives and business leaders, and some of the results are quite surprising.

One of the questions we asked was, ‘in business should creativity have a commercial value?’ Pretty straight forward and as you would expect most people answered… Continue

Hi Nigel,
It would be great to connect with you.
I have just started as the NSW licensee for FACE which is a creative, fun, and powerful tool to help organisations improve communication and create cultural shift. From reading your profile that is an area that you also work in.
I too believe that understanding is fundamental to maximising individual and teams performance, and providing tools to increase understanding is a positive and empowering place from which to support and create change.
Regards, Karen

Hi Nigel, Thanks for the connection. I had a quick look at your site. I love this stuff. In a former life I used to do some team building through outdoor education.

One of the principles I encouraged was 'get fired.' During the problems solving, I'd encourage any suggestions to be put forward without the fear of ridicule or being belittled. The idea being that a silly idea can spark creativity in someone else who may have the winning idea..

Anyway, welcome to the site!
