How interesting. This week I got an email asking me to sign up for a niche social networking site in Massachusetts.
Whilst this message was clearly off target, it did get the cogs wurring a little. For a start, if they can do it in the USA, why can't we do it here.
And so SydneyNetworkers.net was born...
It less than a week old but its gathering pace nicely with site traffic heading the right direction and a steady stream of new subscribers.
So why go to all the trouble?
Well for a start, I have been networking heavily for a few weeks and its hard to keep in contact and to keep track of everyone you meet as well as to do your 'real' work. But also, there's real value in a niche group of people that collaborate with each other and are linked to your geographical location. It saves all the filtering and allows you to know who your dealing with.
Of course, most of all I want people to know what I do and to see if there's an opportunity to do some interesting work together. The internet provides and fantastic opportunity to reach a wide audience and compliment your existing network of 'face to face' contacts.
The idea need to gain some momentum however, we need more members and more content, so feel free to blog, add video, questions and invite members. After all it's success will be your success too.
